About Springfield College

Springfield College is a private college in Springfield, also known as The City of Homes and The City of Firsts, the largest city on the Connecticut River and the county seat of Hampden County, located in the US state of Massachusetts, with more than 155 000 people, living within its limits, according to the 2009 census estimate, which makes it the 3rd largest city in the state and the 4th largest in New England.

The college was established in 1885, as the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) department of the School for Christian Workers in Springfield, and has the original mission to prepare young men to become General Secretaries of YMCA organizations in a two-year program. Springfield now offers undergraduate degrees in more than 40 majors, master's degrees in 15 fields, and doctoral degrees in physical therapy and physical education, being ranked in the top tier for `Best Universities - Master's North Region`, by the U.S. News & World Report.
